We haven't built a Hot Rod at Beach Hop Central for some years, so it is good to back into an early car and once again experiance the fun of an open car. We brought this HOT little Roadster of Dave & Sue Lysaght from Coromandel. The Hot Rod was put on the road in 1983 by Colin Schiska from Tauranga and has travelled all over New Zealand over the years..... Follow along as we give this old Hot Rod a make over into something that everyone will want to win!

The Roadster basically as we purchased it from Dave & Sue.

The 1st few weeks were spent visting the many sponsors you see at the top of the page. This included BG Marketing who are the NZ distributors of many fine wheels including Cragar. We tried a number of different styles, but settled on these timeless Cragar "Smoothies". Please note - the rear wheel is no fitted - just next to the existing wheel to show the difference.

The Crew get to work pulling it all apart. Stephen's got the steel 32 radiator surround.

roadster_-_4
Lance removes the radiator.

Daryl & Dennis make a start on the windscreen.

Bobbie is getting the stainless firewall ready for removal.

roadster_-_5
The interior has been removed.

Cleaning out the trunk - removing the gas tank... and spare spark plug!

roadster_-_9
All clear! The body is starting to be removed....

roadster_-_12
The body is off! Well done team.....

roadster_-_13
And we are left with he bare bones of a Hot Rod Roadster. Many years off grease, dirt and grime will need to be removed before the next stage...

roadster_-_19
And after a can of engine degreaser and quick water blast we found a nice shiny chassis! We'll now start pulling it apart and decide what gets painted and what gets chromed at Otahuhu Chrome Platers...

roadster 3 - 2
Here's Nigel with our box of goodies that are going to be made nice and shiny by Otahuhu Chrome Platers.
roadster 3 - 10
Hot Rodder Bill Fryer from Mead Upholstery & Signs in Matamata works on a plan for the new interior. It will be super comfy!
roadster 3 - 8
Back at Thames Auto Painters and the chassis is stripped back to bare steel. A few cracks were found that will be repaired before painting House of Kolor "Tru Blu" pearl.

roadster 3 - 9
Our crew member Dennis, from Den's Rod Shop, is a clever bugger and made up these very cool new engine mounts.

roadster 3 - 4
Les fills a couple of small chips in the gelcoat of the body.

roadster 3 - 5
The body is sanded back and ready for the next stage.....

roadster 5 oct - - 1
The first coats of primer! Some areas were repaired with spot putty. Notice the differential in the foreground... it will be etch primed...

roadster 8 oct - - 25
The chassis is fully primed at Thames Auto Painters.
roadster 8 oct - - 16
Les noticed the crush tube for the front 4 bar was cracked......

roadster 8 oct - - 12
So Hemi at Watson Engineering in Thames TIG weled the repair.
roadster 8 oct - - 10
A nice, clean and safe repair!

roadster 8 oct - - 21
The 9" Ford diff is etched primed.
